Desiccant Masterbatch
Desiccant masterbatch is a type of additive that is added to plastic materials during the processing stage to reduce or eliminate moisture-related issues. It is made up of desiccant agents, such as calcium oxide or molecular sieves, which have a strong affinity for moisture and can adsorb or absorb water molecules
Desiccant masterbatch is non – toxic, non contamination and no influence to property for plastic products. It offers a simple and cost effective solution to solve moisture problems
Desiccant masterbatch can counter problems which develop during the processing of plastics due to the presence of moisture. Moisture can be present in raw materials such as hygroscopic polymers, fillers and pigments. Reclaim and recycled polymer can also have high moisture content. When processing polymer with high moisture content the polymer can become porous and show voids in molded articles or extruded sheet. In film applications the high moisture content can lead to Lansing and film bubble breakage. Desiccant masterbatch chemically binds moisture during processing and allows higher levels of reclaim or recycled polymer to be used; addition of higher filler levels; and can reduce the need for pre-drying in many applications. In the process of molding, desiccant masterbatches can strongly absord the moisture in the plastic raw materials or other related plastic materials additives. It can increase product quality and the rate of finished products, improve obviously productivity and reduce energy consumption.
Desiccant Masterbatch
Desiccant masterbatch is also called Defoaming Masterbatch or Moisturer Absorber. Its suitable for the production of all the PE/PP recycled plastic products. It has the very serious impact to the plastic products if the raw material contained the trace water, so the factory usually use the drying equipment to dry the plastic. It is a big waste both for energy and manpower, and increased the cost of the products. If use the desiccant masterbatch, just add it directly to the raw material, no need to change any produce process. It helped to remove the bubble, moire, crack, spots of the plastic products that caused by water.
Desiccant is an additive having a moisture adsorptive capacity of not less than 28.5% by weight. The remarkable feature of Desiccant is that it will absorb a much greater amount of water vapor at a very low relative humidity than other materials. Desiccant is most effective where a low critical relative humidity is necessary, and where there is a high concentration of water vapor present.
Desiccant Masterbatch applications
The applications of desiccant masterbatch include:
1. Packaging: Desiccant masterbatch is commonly used in packaging materials, such as films and containers, where moisture absorption can lead to decreased product quality or stability. It helps to maintain the dryness of the packaging and prolong the shelf life of the product.
2. Storage and transportation: Moisture-sensitive materials, such as electronics or pharmaceuticals, require protection from moisture during storage and transportation. Desiccant masterbatch can be added to the plastic components or packaging of these materials to prevent moisture damage.
3. Injection molding and extrusion: The presence of moisture in plastic pellets can cause issues like bubbling, porosity, or decreased mechanical strength during processing. By using desiccant masterbatch in the raw plastic material, these problems can be minimized, ensuring high-quality finished products.
4. Automotive and electrical industries: Desiccant masterbatch is used in the manufacturing of automotive components, electrical connectors, and devices where moisture absorption can lead to corrosion, electrical conductivity issues, or decreased performance.
5. Textiles and fibers: Moisture can negatively affect the properties and processing of textile fibers, leading to decreased product quality. The use of desiccant masterbatch can help prevent moisture-related issues during fiber production, thus improving the overall quality and consistency of the end product.
Desiccant Masterbatch Dosage
-
Directly mix the Desiccant with the Recycled plastic material evenly, then the product can be processed and produced.
-
If used in blow molding production, the addition ratio is 1%-2%;
-
If used in sheet and injection molding production, the addition ratio is 2%-5%.
-
The specific addition ratio should be determined according to the moisture content of the plastic.
